House Training with Dog Cages

Many of the dog owners today struggle with the problem of house breaking. There are very effective humane methods to safely house break your dog, but some people fall to cruel methods out of frustration and the desire to have their dog trained immediately.

In order to get the behavior the dog owner wants, he/she has to find a training method that is right for the dog. Some dogs train easily using constant supervision, but others must be trained using paper or dog cages. You may also choose to combine the two house breaking methods.

Even though cage training is effective, you will find a lot of concerns about this method. There are people who believe that this form of training is inhumane. They feel that no matter what training you are trying to accomplish you should not use a cage on a dog. Contrary to this thought patter, cage training has been shown to be one of the most efficient and effected methods for training both dogs and puppies.

How can this be? First of all, dogs instinctively dwell in dens. For centuries dogs have been known to go to a den if they wanted warmth in cold weather or to cool of in the heat. Dogs see their den as their home, a place where they can go to be safe from any danger. With this in mind, help your dogs cage look like and feel like his home, not a cage.

Secondly, dogs do not like to be in an area that is dirty. Therefore, they will Dog Training

do their best not to soil their cages. With this in mind, you can place your dog inside his cage and he/she will learn to control his bladder and bowel until he/she is permitted to go to his/her designated voiding area. Remember, puppies have not mastered control over their bowels and bladder, so they need taken out more frequently than older dogs. This assists your puppy in developing a routine for his/her voiding habits.

You can get a cage in many different styles and made from various materials. You can find cages at your pet supply stores, hardware stores, or in the pet section of some department stores. As you are comparing cages to make a choice as to which is best for your dog, you need to think about what his/her needs are and what the purpose of the cage is going to be. If your purpose is for travel, you should consider a plastic cage or, for a dog that is sensitive to extreme temperatures, a wire cage. You should also consider what size cage you need. If you buy one to fit your puppy, but don’t take into consideration how big he/she is going to get, you may have to spend more money when the dog grows. You can easily buy a large cage for your puppy to grow into and simple block off the area of the cage that the puppy does not need, so he/she can’t go to that area to void.

You have to be consistent and use determination when you are attempting to house break your dog using a cage. Doing this will allow you to put the house breaking problems in the past.
